College library is the heart of our institution. It supports process of college education through providing required reading materials (Print + Electronic) to the user and opens the doors to the wide world of books which encourages reading for gain of knowledge and pleasure. College library also provides light reading materials like magazines, novels etc. The Library is growing in pace with the rapid growth and advancement of technology from the form of traditional library to a computerized one. ICT facilities like NLIST, a package of e-resources are activated.
The General Library of Pope’s College was established on 31st March 1963 with 1000 text books and five periodicals largely donated by Prof. D.S. George Muller, the Founder Principal of the College. Mr. Justin D. Rajan was the first Librarian. Prof. K. Paul Dawson was holding the additional charge of the Library for the academic years 1963 – 1965. Prof. R. Jeyam Navaraj took charge of the Library following the transfer of Prof. K. Paul Dawson to Nazareth Margoschis College. Prof. V. Solomon was the Librarian from 28 June 1975 to 28 Feb 2002. From 2002 to 2010, the Library was taken care of by management staff and presently Mr. K. Mutharasan is serving as the Librarian.
The Library was earlier housed in the Main block from 1962 to 2011. Later it was shifted to the UGC funded new library building with a carpet area of 3000 sq.ft opened on 10th May 2011. The New Library building has been aptly named as Prof. D.S. George Muller library in remembrance of his dedicated service to the student community of Pope’s College, Sawyerpuram.
